H&M is a clothing brand founded by Erling Persson in Sweden in 1947. Today, H&M sells clothing, accessories and cosmetics in more than 1,500 boutiques around the world. The old H&M store on Stora Gatan Street in Sweden was the first H&M store in the world. The H&M brand name is a combination of "Hennes" ("she" in Swedish) women's clothing and "Mauritz" men's clothing brands, each taking the first letter to form "H&M".
