In the late '60s, Australian surfers Alan Green and John Law set out to live out their dream of living and surfing in Torquay. In 1969, Alan Green borrowed money from his father to produce swimwear (Rip Curl) followed by sheepskin boots (UGG boots). In 1970, he and John Law formed Quiksilver. Ripped up some old swim trunks and removed the parts they didn't think were unnecessary or inappropriate. The heavy canvas, the lace front, the long chimney legs, and the two thick seams and buttons that hurt when you paddle are all thrown away. The old styles are gone, so they start over. They designed an anatomically based style for surfers to wear.
